How To Backup And Restore A Windows Server 2016 DHCP Server

In this blog post, I’ll show you How To Backup And Restore A Windows Server 2016 DHCP Server using PowerShell.

One of the most Important components of a Windows Network Is DHCP, Without valid DHCP address, clients can’t connect to the network.

I’ve seen many times how an entire Network went down because the DHCP Server broke and no one noticed and when someone found out, there was no backup available to restore the DHCP scopes.

This little handy cmdlet will save a full copy all existing scope, settings, and reservation of the DHCP Server, the restore part will only take a few seconds to restore all the data to its operational state.

The first step In the process Is to create a backup folder on the DHCP Server

To back the DHCP Server open a PowerShell session and run the cmdlet below with the path of the backup folder

Backup-DhcpServer -Path C:\dhcpBackup\ -Verbose

When done, the backup job will create a backup file called DHCPCfg
