In this blog post, I’ll show you How to Decommission A Windows Server Core 2016 Domain Controller using PowerShell.

Decommissioning a Domain Controller Is something any Domain Admin will come across In his or her career as part of the life cycle management of any Active Directory Infrastructure.

The process below will utilize the PowerShell Active Directory Deployment Module to simplify the process.

To get started, Open PowerShell using Run As Admin and use the cmdlet below:

Uninstall-ADDSDomainController -SkipPreChecks -ForceRemoval

Next, Set the local Admin Password and click enter

Next, Confirm the action, In my case, this Is not the last domain Controller In the Environment

The process will take a few minutes and when done the Server will restart

Once completed, log on again using the local password set In the beginning and as you can see below the Server Is no longer a DC or a Domain Member
