In this blog post, I’ll show you How to Enable Storage Data-Deduplication on Windows Server 2016 Data-Deduplication, Is part of the Windows Server 2016 Storage Server role and it allows us to save disk space by removing multiple copies of the same data.

The first release of Data-Deduplication Server roles was released with Windows Server 2012 and was adopted very quickly because of the huge saving potential that before that was only available on SAN systems.

Before deploying Data-Deduplication There Is one thing that we need to note that, Data-Deduplication can’t be enabled on C:\ or any drive the OS Is Installed.

To get started, We need to first Install the Data-Deduplication Server role using the cmdlet below

add-WindowsFeature FS-Data-Deduplication

Once Installed there Is no need to restart, Just open Server Manager -> Storage -> Volumes

Right-click on the drive you need to enable Data-Deduplication and select Configure Data Deduplication

In the Data Deduplication menu, Select the purpose of the data Data-Deduplication and option to Data Deduplication after X days

Once, done you will be able to see Deduplication Savings from the same screen
