Windows Nano Server 2016 was released back In October 31st, 2016 and since then It has been a hit with IT Professional and Developer that are locking for lightweight, Secure and thin host to run applications and code.

Windows IIS 10 on Nano Server offer many features to run web applications and front-end IIS Web Interfaces that connect to SQL Databases.

In this post, I’ll be using the new online package management that allows a one-liner role Installation needing to mount ISO Image or download complicated Installers.

To use the online Installer the only thing that Is needed Is an Internet connection.

To get started, I’ll connect to my Nano Server using the code below:

Enter-PSSession nanod05

Next, I’ll Install the Nano Server Package provider using:

Install-PackageProvider NanoServerPackage

Then, I’ll Import it using:

Import-PackageProvider NanoServerPackage

Once loaded, I’ll search for available packages using:

Find-NanoServerPackage -name *

Finally, To Install IIS I simply use the one line code below:

Install-NanoServerPackage -Name microsoft-nanoserver-iis-package -Culture en-us

Done, next I’ll restart the server using the restart-computer

Once the server Is up, I’ll connect to it again using Enter-PSSession and Import the IIS module with:

Import-module iis*
