Like many advanced and secure operating systems, VMware offers with its Hypervisor technology a state of the art built-in firewall that allows us to secure and protect our Virtual Machine, Storage and Software Defined Data-Center.

The VMware firewall monitors and controls the incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules.

A firewall typically establishes a barrier between a trusted, secure internal network and another outside network, such as the Internet, that is assumed not to be secure or trusted.

In our case, the VMware Firewall also protect the hypervisor from security threats coming from Inside the network and networks considered safe.

By default, VMware vSphere allows the most basic access to the hypervisor using a few firewall ports that are enabled on the hosts.

To view, open and block ports, open the vSphere 6.5 Client and click on Configure

In the Configure page left side, Click on Firewall

On the Centre of the screen, you will see all the ports that are available to open or block

To open or block a specific port, Simply edit the rule and tick or untick to enable or disable it.

In my case, I’ve opened the SNMP port and will click OK to confirm.

Next, go to Services page and start the Service
