How to Install Exchange Server 2016


In this blog post, I’ll show you How to Install Exchange Server 2016 on Windows Server 2016 using PowerShell and the Exchange Server Installation GUI.

Exchange Server 2016 Is the #1 messaging System In the world and used by 99% of Enterprises worldwide, It Is also the messaging System behind Office 365 Exchange Online and

Over the years Microsoft has done an excellent job making Exchange Server better and faster and also Improving the Installation process 10-fold.

In this blog post, I’ll not get into Exchange Server design methods and scenarios which can be very tricky depending on the size of the business, rather I’ll show you how to Install Exchange Server In the most efficient and less time-consuming way while making sure all requirements are Installed.

Installing Exchange Involved three parts:

  • Operating System requirements Installation
  • Application requirements Installation
  • Exchange Server Installation

To Install Exchange, you will need to be a member of:

  • Domain Admins
  • Schema Admins
  • Enterprise Admins

To get started, I’ll Install all the operating system requirements on my Windows Server 2016 standard edition using the PowerShell code below.

To Install all Operating System requirements, I’ll use PowerShell ISE, simply by copying the code below and run (make sure you run PowerShell as Administrator)

Once done, I’ll restart the Server and patch Windows Server using Windows Updates.

  • Note: You could also Install the update below which will be enough to Install Exchange Server 2016 with CU5

Next, I’ll need to download and Install Unified Communications Managed API 4.0 Runtime from the link below:

Once done, I’ll Load the Exchange Server 2016 Installation media to the Server and start the Installation process, This step can take 40 minutes.

Once done, you will see the Exchange Server 2016 program in the programs menu

To open Exchange Administrative Center, Use the URL below (simply change the host name with the Server name.
